Let's face it, being creative in the current state of the world can be difficult. We're all just trying to survive and help each other get through the daily insanity as best we can. I often need to remind myself that the process of creating anything is a natural mood booster Even if I only write a hundred words, the time I spend engaging those parts of my brain is exercising my writing muscles.

Lately I've been using parody songwriting and a warm up because I have an odd sense of humor and my first love of writing came through poetry and lyrics . Someone suggested rewriting the classic 1980s Rod Stewart hit "Infatuation" as "Procrastination". I loved the idea as writers are well familiar with the art of procrastination!

Without further comment, here it is:

Procrastination

(To the tune of Rod Stewart's "Infatuation")

Early in the morning I'm asleep

Can't get up so I can eat

I've been slow all day, and I'm so late

Need to do my list, but I still wait

Caught myself doing other stuff

Like I don't already have to do enough

Maybe I'll sit and write this song

Instead of doing what I should've been all along

Oh no not again

I'm way behind

Didn't follow my plan

Procrastination

Procrastination

Procrastination

Procrastination

The work piles up while I'm online

Going down rabbit holes all the time

I'm so off track by the middle of the week

Maybe a new plan is what I need

Oh no not again

I'm way behind

Didn't follow my plan

Procrastination

Procrastination

Procrastination

Procrastination

Hate my list so I'll compact it

Finished one thing then got distracted

Not enough time so I'll just read

Maybe a new plan is what I need

Oh no not again

I'm way behind

Didn't follow my plan

Procrastination

Procrastination

Procrastination

Procrastination

Give it up
