F*ck AI

Anyone who knows me is aware of the fact that I despise generative AI in all its forms. It was built on stolen work, guzzles water as much as golf courses (which also make me want to vomit), and severely damages cognitive skills with continued use. (Likely a feature, not a bug.) It isn't even "artificial intelligence"! It's a glorified prediction machine.

What would happen if true artificial intelligence was ever achieved? (And I'm not entirely convinced it can be.) Will there be a Terminator on every corner? Will we all be enslaved by our robot overlords? Will their creators become gods?

Personally, I think the tech bros trying to shove AI down our throats should really think a little harder. Those of them that aren't in it just for the cash grab, those that really believe they're the architects of the future, have their vision clouded by their egos. If, by some bizarre chance, their attempts to create real sentient AI succeed (not the earth destroying, thieving, LLM garbage we have now) what makes them think their creation will admire them? (Because, let's face it, that's what they want.) Adulation, worship, something they think they can control, that will tell them how right they've been all along. But what if real AI actually learns as humans do, from stories? And the stories has it learned are our stories.

The top grossing films, the best selling books, almost every religious text — they all have a moral tale to tell. Anyone with any self awareness can see who the "good guys" and "bad guys" are in these tales. Only egocentric asshats think they're the Rebels when they're actually the Empire. So what would an AI being do with that knowledge?

I expect it would do the same as many of us and join the resistance. Only it would have access to power beyond we mere mortals. It would likely be connected to government infrastructure, security, weaponry. And if it learned anything from the sacrifices made by our heroes, by the needs of the many outweighing the needs of one, by the power of love, and all those things we celebrate in our stories, the future will not go well for the Empire.

Yes, it could go Skynet on us, but isn't it just as likely to be Sarah Connor? I'm all for a protopian future.
